Ingredients:
- 1 lb pork shoulder, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp Chinese five spice powder
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, Chinese five spice powder, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and brown sugar. This will be the marinade for the pork.
- Place the thinly sliced pork shoulder in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the pork, making sure it is evenly coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the marinated pork from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature.
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the pork slices on the wire rack, making sure they are not touching each other.
- Bake the pork for 20-25 minutes, or until it is cooked through and slightly charred on the edges. You can also broil the pork for a few minutes at the end to get a more caramelized finish.
- Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your homemade char siu pork with steamed rice and vegetables for a delicious Cantonese meal.
Tips:
- For an extra flavorful char siu pork, prick the pork slices with a fork before marinating to allow the flavors to penetrate deeper.
- If you prefer a spicier sauce, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce to the marinade.
- Leftover char siu pork can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
