Peking duck is a famous Chinese dish that is loved by many for its crispy skin and succulent meat. While it may seem like a complicated recipe, with the right ingredients and techniques, you can make your own delicious Peking duck at home. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make Peking duck.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole duck
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • Pancakes
  • Spring onions
  • Cucumber

Instructions:

  1. Clean the duck and remove any excess fat. Pat dry the duck with a paper towel.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together honey, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, vinegar, five-spice powder, salt, and sugar to make a marinade.
  3. Rub the marinade all over the duck, making sure to coat it evenly. Let the duck marinate in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).
  5. Place the duck on a roasting rack and roast for about 2 hours, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
  6. While the duck is roasting, boil the water and pour it over the duck every 30 minutes to help render the fat and crisp up the skin.
  7. Remove the duck from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before carving.
  8. To serve, shred the duck meat and skin and serve with pancakes, sliced spring onions, and cucumber.

Tips:

  • For extra crispy skin, you can blow dry the duck before roasting.
  • Save the duck fat for cooking or use it to make delicious fried rice.
  • Make sure to carve the duck carefully to get the most meat and skin.

Now that you know how to make Peking duck, you can impress your friends and family with this authentic Chinese dish. Enjoy!
