Ingredients:

  • 1 whole duck (about 5-6 lbs)
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sherry
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 4 cloves of garlic, peeled

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Remove the giblets from the duck and rinse it inside and out. Pat dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, Chinese five-spice powder, salt, sherry, and cornstarch. Heat over low heat until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Stuff the green onions, ginger, and garlic inside the cavity of the duck.
  5. Using a sharp knife, prick the skin of the duck all over without piercing the meat.
  6. Place the duck on a roasting rack in a roasting pan. Brush the duck with the sauce mixture, making sure to coat it evenly.
  7. Roast the duck in the preheated oven for about 2 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the sauce.
  8. Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and roast for an additional 30 minutes to crisp up the skin.
  9. Remove the duck from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving.

Serving:

Serve the Peking duck with steamed pancakes, hoisin sauce, cucumber, and green onions. To eat, spread some hoisin sauce on a pancake, add slices of duck, cucumber, and green onions, then roll it up and enjoy!

Now you can enjoy restaurant-quality Peking duck right in the comfort of your home. Impress your loved ones with this flavorful and crispy dish that will surely become a favorite. Happy cooking!
